‘I Don’t Want To Go Through That’: Mary J. Blige Explains Why Being A Mom Isn’t For Her
Mary J. Blige explained why parenthood isn’t her vocation in a recent interview.

In a recent interview with E! Daily Pop, the singer was asked whether she ever imagined waking up one day and regretting not having children. The celebrity said that at 51, such an experience has not happened and is unlikely to occur.

“Oh, I’m still not there.” “I’m not there yet, so I’m fine,” she said. “Listen, I’ve always had nieces and nephews. I’m always amused by how people scramble for babysitters [laughs]. That’s something I don’t want to go through.”

“I like my freedom,” she continued. I like being able to get up, walk about, and do anything I want. I don’t want to be always responsible for someone. That’s where I’m at right now. “I don’t think it’ll happen.”
Blige was previously married to Kendu Isaacs, a music manager and producer who had three children from a previous relationship. Back in 2007, Blige said that she was enjoying being a stepparent and all the responsibilities it entails.
“I’ve been a stepmother for three years now, and I love them so much,” she told Redbook. “They’d ask me things like, ‘What do we call you?'” ‘Call me Mary, call me anything you want,’ I replied. You are not required to call me Mommy until you are ready.”

“We don’t get a lot of time with them, but when we do, we try to make sure we’re walking examples of what their life will be,” she said at the time. “We’re not throwing wild parties or anything like that.” We prefer to stay at home. When we don’t have to work, we’re at home, going grocery shopping, helping kids with their schoolwork, or just listening to them talk us to death.”

She divorced Isaacs in 2016, and the divorce was completed in 2018. While she was open to becoming a mom back then, as Blige revealed, she’s doing quite great without it today.
