La Toya Jackson Honors Lisa Marie Presley’s Love for Ex Michael Jackson

The “Heart Don’t Lie” singer paid homage and reminisced on the relationship shared by Elvis and Priscilla Presley’s daughter and Michael, who were married in the 1990s, one day after Lisa Marie’s death.

“We’re missing you, Lisa!” La Toya posted on Instagram on January 13th. “You will always be in our hearts, and I will never forget how much you shared your love for my brother with me!” I appreciate your candor, bravery, and openness to your feelings.”

In addition to the letter, she shared a picture montage of Lisa Marie, her parents, and Michael set to his song “You Are Not Alone.”

Michael’s estate also remembers the aftermath of her death. “We are saddened by the sudden tragic loss of Michael’s former wife, Lisa Marie Presley,” said John Branca and John McClain on behalf of his estate in a statement issued on Jan. 13. “Michael treasured their special bond, as seen in the official video for ‘You Are Not Alone,’ and was comforted by Lisa Marie’s generous love, concern, and care during their times together.”

Lisa Marie and Michael married in May 1994, not long after she divorced her first husband, Danny Keough, with whom she had two children, Riley and Benjamin.
A few months after the wedding, she verified the union.

“My married name is Mrs. Lisa Marie Presley-Jackson,” she declared in an August 1994 statement to The New York Times. “I’m madly in love with Michael.” I devote my whole life to becoming his wife. I understand and agree with him. We are both excited about starting a family and enjoying a great, healthy life together.”
The marriage, however, was short-lived, and the couple divorced in 1996. Lisa Marie reminisced on her brief affair with the musician and her choice to call it quits years later.

“I fell into this whole, ‘You poor, sweet, misunderstood man, I’m going to save you,'” she told ABC News’ Diane Sawyer in 2003. “You know, I got caught up in it. I was smitten by him. I did.”

Lisa Marie said of the end of her marriage to Michael, who died in 2009, “it just kind of went really sour, really fast.”

“It was done over the phone.” “I’d had enough,” she went on. “There was a lot going on back then. It became extremely bad at the end. It wasn’t pretty, but I’m not going to dwell on it.”

Lisa Marie died on January 12, at the age of 54, after being transported to the hospital. According to a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, She’d had a heart attack tonight. The cause of death has yet to be determined. In a statement that evening, Priscilla announced Lisa Marie’s death.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” she said in an interview with People. “She was the most passionate, strong, and loving woman I’d ever met.” We want privacy as we attempt to cope with this tragic loss. Thank you for your support and prayers. There will be no additional remark at this time.”
Lisa Marie died two days after attending the Golden Globes, when she and Priscilla saw Austin Butler’s depiction of her father in the biography Elvis win Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama.

Austin’s Elvis co-star Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson were among those who sent their sympathies after learning of Lisa Marie’s death.

“Lisa Marie was so honest and direct, vulnerable, and in a state of anticipation about the movie,” they said in part on Instagram. “She spoke so eloquently about her father, what the movie meant to her, that it was a celebration of her dad.”
