For Mother’s Day weekend, Mary J. Blige returns with her Strength Of A Woman Festival and Summit. Lauryn Hill, Coco Jones, Muni Long, and Summer Walker will perform at the Atlanta event.
Blige collaborated with Pepsi as part of the event to promote possibilities for Black women. Pepsi will provide $200,000 to the PepsiCo x Mary J. Blige Strength of a Woman Scholarship. Inside the fund, groups that empower Black women will be supported, as will students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Contributions to the Festival
The Strength of a Woman Scholarship will provide funding to local groups that embody the summit’s programming objectives. Women are empowered by the companies chosen in the fields of health, technology, finance, and the creative arts. Silence the Shame, City of Refuge, Right Hand Foundation, and Earth Girl ATL are among them.
The scholarship fund will also assist a Black female student who is presently enrolled in or seeking to enroll in an HBCU. The scholarship winner will be revealed on Pepsi’s HBCU tour in the autumn.
As part of the festival and summit, female-run, Black-owned eateries will be highlighted. Pepsi Dig In is a brand platform that promotes access, growth, and recognition for Black-owned companies. Dig In will serve free meals from a variety of local Black female-owned eateries. Summit guests will get the opportunity to sample specialty meals from Atlanta restaurants such as Ms. Icey’s Kitchen, Gocha’s Breakfast Bar, Twisted Soul, and Local Green Atlanta. The campaign will highlight these establishments on one of the city’s busiest weekends.
The Only Goal
Blige’s yearly event has proved to raise the voices of women. She is committed to raising the visibility of Black women-owned companies. Black women have felt represented by Blige’s songs and demeanor for decades. Now, the singer-songwriter is using her platform to help others achieve financial independence.
