Selena Gomez recently skipped the SAG Awards due to the commotion surrounding Hailey Bieber and her social media sabbatical. This is why.
The star-studded SAG Awards were recently held in California, and many stars turned heads on the red carpet, with the exception of Selena Gomez. The singer-actress, whose play Only Murders in the Building was nominated, seems to have opted out of the award ceremony. While she has not said why she is doing so, several rumors claim it has something to do with her web series.
Selena made her television debut as a young actress in the children’s show Barney & Friends. She later appeared in Disney sitcoms such as The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and Wizards of Waverly Place.
Not only was Selena Gomez missing from the award presentation, but so were her co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short. The two senior actors were vying for the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series. While the three of them did not attend the award event in person, their virtual presence, a brief comedic routine that aired at the start of the program, had the crowd in splits.
According to Elle, Selena and her co-stars’ absence from the program is not due to the recent conflict with Hailey Bieber, but rather to the fact that they are now shooting the third season of the Netflix series. Furthermore, the Wolves vocalist was not nominated for any awards. Ashley Park and Meryl Streep previously joined the cast of Only Murders in the Building.

The show was also nominated for Outstanding Ensemble Performance in a Comedy Series. It did not, however, win any of the trophies.
Selena recently made news for defending her closest friend Taylor Swift when a video of Hailey Bieber mocking Tay leaked. Selena Gomez responded to the video by writing, “So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be the best in game.” Selena declared a social media hiatus shortly after the scandal.
