Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre will reconvene to commemorate the 30th anniversary of his breakthrough album, Doggystyle, alongside the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Snoop Dogg is an undisputed legend, having pioneered modern-day Hip-Hop as well as being an entrepreneur, actor, media personality, and more. So it’s only fitting that his anniversary show features a complete orchestra, and in the Hollywood Bowl no less.
Snoop Dogg and the ReCollective Orchestra, directed by conductor Derrick Hodge, are planned to “recreate ‘Gin and Juice,’ ‘What’s My Name,’ ‘Lodi Dodi,’ and more, including hits from throughout his career, on a pair of nights produced by Dr. Dre.” The orchestra will collaborate with Dr. Dre on rhythms, sound mixing, and arrangement, resulting in a larger-than-life redefined musical experience.
Doggystyle, released in 1993, catapulted West Coast Hip-Hop to the forefront of the music industry. It debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 200, broke the record for most sales by a new artist, and was the fastest-selling Hip-Hop album at the time. The record has now been awarded Quadruple Platinum by the RIAA. Doggystyle is also seeing a rebirth, thanks to its reintroduction on digital streaming platforms in March.
The statement from the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Hollywood Bowl mentions music spanning his career, which suggests that there may be room in the program for new songs to be premiered. Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg are apparently working on a new album called Missionary, which Snoop promised will be released “summer 23” in a previous Instagram post. Summer ’23 and the Hollywood Bowl concerts on June 27 and 28 would undoubtedly coincide!
Tickets for the “Snoop Dogg and Friends” performances will go on public sale on Friday, May 5 at 10 a.m. PT on the Philharmonic website.
