Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still work as a care worker in the UK?
New international recruitment for care worker and senior care worker roles is banned since July 2025. However, existing visa holders can continue working and extending their visas. Workers already in the UK on other visas can switch into care roles until July 2028. NHS clinical roles (nurses, doctors) remain open to international recruitment.
Which country pays nurses the most?
In gross salary terms, the United States ($60Kโ€“$133K) and Switzerland ($80Kโ€“$185K) pay the highest. For tax-free earnings, the Gulf States (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar) offer $19Kโ€“$66K plus housing, transport, and flights. Canada ($50Kโ€“$85K) and Australia ($46Kโ€“$64K plus 11.5% super) offer the best combination of salary and permanent residency.
What is the fastest way for a nurse to get permanent residency?
New Zealand's Green List Tier 1 gives registered nurses straight-to-residence status. Canada's Express Entry healthcare draws process PR in 6โ€“8 months. Ireland's Critical Skills Permit leads to Stamp 4 (PR) after just 2 years. Germany's Blue Card offers PR after 21โ€“33 months.
What is Germany's Triple Win program?
The Triple Win program, run by GIZ and ZAV, recruits nurses from the Philippines, India (Kerala, Telangana), Indonesia, and Tunisia for Germany. It provides pre-arrival language courses (B1/B2), professional orientation, recognition document prep, and post-arrival employer matching. Over 4,500 nurses have been placed with an 80%+ retention rate after 2 years. The program is expanding to Brazil, Colombia, Jordan, and Mexico.
Do I need to speak the local language to work as a nurse abroad?
It depends on the country. English-speaking countries (Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, Gulf States) require IELTS 7.0 or equivalent. Germany requires German B1 for visa entry and B2 for full nursing licensure. France requires French proficiency. English-only destinations are the fastest path for most internationally-trained nurses.
